Russian deputy minister, Syrian nun discuss situation in Syria

Humanitarian situation in Syria and the situation the Christian minority in the war-torn country has found itself in was the main subject of a meeting between Russian Deputy Foreign Minister, Mikhail Bogdanov, who is President Putin’s special envoy to the Middle East, and the Greek Catholic nun Mother Agnes Miriam el-Salib.

Mother Agnes, the abbess of the convent in the name of St Jacob the Mutilated, arrived in Moscow at the invitation of the Imperial Palestinian Orthodox Society, the Foreign Ministry said in a press release.

“In the course of the meeting, the interlocutors had a detailed exchange of opinions on the situation in Syria,” the report said. “The Russian side reaffirmed the fundamental stance in favor of a sonnest political settlement in Syria along with the continued unrelenting struggle with the terrorist organizations that have taken foothold on the Syrian land.”

“Mother Agnes praised Russia’s effort to resolve the acutest humanitarian problems of the Syrian people, including the supplies of humanitarian aid via governmental channels and by nongovernmental organizations, including the Imperial Palestinian Orthodox Society,” the ministry said.
