International observers may come to any Russian region for September elections

International observers will be able to go parliamentary elections in any Russian region in September, chairperson of the Central Election Commission (CEC) Ella Pamfilova said on Wednesday (July 13).

“We will have a rather considerable number of international observes. Many regions, like St. Petersburg, Moscow, Moscow Region, are ready and waiting. I think that there are also several other regions up for choosing,” Pamfilova told a CEC session.

She inquired whether the Astrakhan Region is ready to invite international observers. “Many complaints were filed in the Astrakhan Region. I am addressing the region’s leadership and the chairman of our commission – we will provide the city with an optical scan voting system, but you should also expect (international observers),” she noted.

“International observers can come to any place in Russia. We are absolutely open,” Pamfilova concluded.
