Rocket booster catches fire at military test site in south Russia


A rocket booster caught fire during routine maintenance at a warehouse of non-combat components of missile targets at the Ashuluk test site in the Astrakhan Region, in the lower reaches of the Volga river. Nobody was hurt, the Defense Ministry said on Monday (June 20).

“During routine maintenance inside a warehouse of non-combat components of missile targets at the Ashuluk test site on June 20, 2016 a rocket booster caught fire. The incident occurred at 09:20 Moscow time. Nobody was hurt,” the Defense Ministry’s press-service said.

Fire-fighting brigades are dealing with the blaze. The Defense Ministry has dispatched a panel of inquiry to the scene of the incident.
