Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova is worried about Zaporozhye and Kherson

Official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova, during the ASEAN summit in Sochi, commented on the renaming of the Ukrainian city of Dnepropetrovsk on the Dnieper. Zakharova said that the decision made by the Kiev authorities is “divorced from historical reality”.

On the 19th May, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted a resolution on changing the name of the city of Dnipropetrovsk on the Dnieper river in the framework of the law on decommunization. The city was named in honor of the Communist Grigory Petrovsky. Meanwhile, the decision was taken contrary to the opinion of the residents of Dnipropetrovsk, 90% of which opposed the renaming of the city.
